This journey offers a diverse driving experience through scenic landscapes and historic sites. You begin heading south from Pitlochry, detouring along the A9 to reach Dunkeld, known for its cathedral and local shops. Continuing, you pass through Blairgowrie and the berry-rich countryside en route to Kirriemuir.
Soon after Kirriemuir, you briefly travel on the A90 dual carriageway before turning off to Edzell, where a 16th-century castle and walled gardens await. The route then climbs over the Cairn o’Mount pass at 454 meters, leading into the granite-built towns along the River Dee in Deeside. Notable stops include Banchory, Aboyne, Ballater, Balmoral Castle and Braemar, each offering various attractions and dining options.
From Braemar, the route ascends toward Glen Shee at 665 meters, with views of the skiing area and open moorland. You then descend through Kirkmichael back to Pitlochry, traversing farmland and hills along the way.
