About us at the Green Park Hotel

The central core of the Green Park Hotel in Pitlochry is a gracious country house.

This original house was built in 1889 for two sisters, Grace Louise Cowan and Jane Eleanor Cowan. They came from a family of merchants who, having been successful in both Glasgow and Edinburgh, saw good sense in escaping from the cities, moving to the clear air of Perthshire and, if fortune favoured them, becoming country gentry.

The family had a tendency to produce female offspring unable to secure husbands. Reconciling themselves to this condition, the two ladies, in their forties blossomed as social hostesses for the cream of local society at their fine country house hotel, then called Lagreach and at present times, the Green Park Hotel.

The daily routine of the hotel still follows the lifestyle of its first owners, sensitively modified to current requirements and with modern facilities.

Since 1996 the hotel has been owned and operated by the McMenemie family. Two generations of the family were originally involved - John and Mary ( Mum and Dad ), and Alistair and Diane ( son number three, and daughter in law ). John and Mary celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in October 2008, and are pictured above, though sadly both passed away within months of each other in 2019.

Alistair is pictured at reception in the days when he still had some dark hair left, while Diane is pictured sandwiched between hotel guests, Jack and Veronica Weir. The Weirs of Northern Ireland are part of a fearless and select band of discerning travellers, who have followed the McMenemies around Pitlochry as they have progressed from Castlebeigh House Hotel, to Knockendarroch House Hotel and finally to the Green Park Hotel. We commend their remarkable fortitude to you ! The two of us - Diane and I - together with friendly and enthusiastic staff run the hotel on traditional lines. This clearly appeals to many people, as the hotel is fortunate enough to have a considerabe number of visitors, who as regulars, come to the hotel not once but several times each year.

David and June Ann Gallacher ( pictured ) have worked alongside us, practically from the time that we took over the running of the Green Park. David's specialist subjects are malt whisky and Liverpool F.C., and he is available to chat about either subject at any time of the day. June Ann has taken a PHD in pulling together a rota for the hotel at a moments notice, and she also claims to be able to find Alistair where ever he may be in the hotel after everyone else has given up the hope of ever finding him again.
